Follistatin 344 (FS-344)

Follistatin 344 (FS-344, also called FS315) is a 315-amino-acid isoform of the naturally occurring follistatin protein. After signal-peptide removal during post-translational processing, the mature peptide is studied for its interactions with myostatin and activin A — proteins in the TGF-beta superfamily that regulate muscle growth and inflammation.

Research Summary

  • FS-344 binds myostatin and activin, blocking their interaction with type-II activin receptors in research models.
  • Animal studies — including non-human primates — have examined FS-344 for muscle mass and strength in preclinical models.
  • Clinical research has explored FS-344 in conditions such as sporadic inclusion body myositis.
  • The 344 (FS315) isoform differs from the FS288 isoform in heparin-binding properties and pharmacokinetics.
